Privacy Policy
Last updated: this describes how Purchase Vault actually works today, in plain language. It is not attorney-reviewed.
What we collect
When you create an account, we store your username, email address, and password (hashed, never in plain text). When you use Purchase Vault, we store the purchase information you enter — item name, merchant, price, purchase date, return/warranty dates, serial numbers, and any notes you add.
Uploaded receipts and documents
Files you upload (receipts, warranty terms, invoices, or other documents) are stored on our hosting provider's storage and are only accessible to you, through an authenticated, ownership-checked view. No other user can access your files.
Forwarded receipts
If you use the "Review a forwarded receipt" feature, the text and any attachment you paste or upload is stored the same way as any other purchase document, scoped to your account.
Reminder emails
If you have return or warranty deadlines coming up, we send reminder emails to the address on your account. You can dismiss individual reminders in the app.
Product analytics
We record a small number of first-party product events tied to your account — for example, that you created a purchase or uploaded a receipt — so we can understand how the product is actually used. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking services, and we never send receipt contents, document contents, notes, or extracted text to any analytics system.
Service providers
Purchase Vault runs on Railway (hosting, database, and file storage) and, once configured, a transactional email provider for sending reminder and password-reset emails. We don't sell or share your data with advertisers.
Retention and deletion
Your data is kept as long as your account exists. You can request account deletion at any time (see the Support page), or use the self-service "Delete my account" option in your account settings, which permanently removes your account, purchases, documents, and uploaded files.
Security limitations
We take reasonable steps to protect your data — authenticated file access, hashed passwords, and HTTPS in production — but no system is perfectly secure, and Purchase Vault is an early-stage product. Please don't upload information you wouldn't be comfortable storing in any online service.
